Today, Immidio releases an updated version of Flex+. With this release (version 8.2) we have primarily focused on supporting the latest Windows versions, extending our App-V 5 support and making it easier to get started with Flex+.
Getting the Flex+ components installed and configured is pretty straightforward, as illustrated in this 10-minute video. However, to then start trying out the capabilities of Flex+, you would first have to create configuration items yourself in the Flex+ management console. That is now a thing of the past, thanks to the new Easy Start feature.
Easy Start installs a default set of Flex+ configuration items (User Environment and Personalization for common applications and Windows settings), so you can quickly get a feel for the Flex+ functionality. You can also have Easy Start install items for one or more Microsoft Office versions. You can use the installed items as is or just use this as a starting point for your own implementation. To see Easy Start in action, you can watch this video.
Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 support
It is always our goal to support newer versions of Windows as soon as possible after they have been made generally available. Now, within weeks after the release of Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, these operating systems are supported by Immidio Flex+.
Extended and improved Microsoft App-V 5 support
In the previous release of Immidio Flex+, we introduced support for personalization of Microsoft App-V 5.0 applications. With Flex+ 8.2, enabling this support has become even easier and we now also provide a very convenient way to create shortcuts and file type associations for App-V 5 enabled applications. For certain scenarios, like running App-V 5 in RDS or XenApp environments, this could result in much faster access to App-V 5 applications after logging on.
Message support in Triggered Tasks
Since the introduction of Triggered Tasks in the previous release of Flex+, we have seen great adoption and received a lot of positive feedback on this feature from our customers. Triggered Tasks have been extended with the option to display a custom message when a task is executed. For example, if you create a Triggered Task to refresh the printer mappings when a user reconnects to a remote session, you can now show a message stating that the printers are currently being refreshed.
Many other improvements have been made to Flex+, like out-of-the-box application templates for Microsoft Office 2013 in the Flex+ management console and extended logging of the Flex+ client component FlexEngine. These and many other improvements are all documented in the Administrator’s Guide included in the download package for this Flex+ release.
